Initial set-up of Dropbox (free)
- Create a Dropbox account if you haven't already: https://www.dropbox.com/
- Download Dropbox to your desktop: https://www.dropbox.com/downloading
- A Dropbox folder will appear on your computer. Any files or folders added to this Dropbox folder will be instantly stored and synced with your cloud based Dropbox account.
- TIP: Create new client folders or copy/drag existing client folders into the Dropbox folder.
- NOTE: Nobody can see any files or folders unless they are sent a specific link to an individual file or folder (see below).
To send a file to a client - Mac
- Press control on your keyboard and click the file at the same time (or right-click the file).
- Select Copy Dropbox Link. Do NOT select Share...
- The link will be copied to your clipboard.
- You can then paste it to an email, message, or wherever people can access it (they will see a link and then click on it to download).
- POWER TIP (optional): to make the file instantly download from the link, change the end of the link from =0 to =1
To send a file to a client - PC
- Right-click the file and hover over More…
- Choose Copy Dropbox link. Do NOT select Share...
- The link will be copied to your clipboard.
- You can then paste it to an email, message, or wherever people can access it (they will see a link and then click on it to download).
- POWER TIP (optional): to make the file instantly download from the link, change the end of the link from =0 to =1
