How to send file link via Dropbox


Initial set-up of Dropbox (free)

  1. Create a Dropbox account if you haven't already: https://www.dropbox.com/
  2. Download Dropbox to your desktop: https://www.dropbox.com/downloading
  3. A Dropbox folder will appear on your computer. Any files or folders added to this Dropbox folder will be instantly stored and synced with your cloud based Dropbox account.
  4. TIP: Create new client folders or copy/drag existing client folders into the Dropbox folder. 
  5. NOTE: Nobody can see any files or folders unless they are sent a specific link to an individual file or folder (see below).


To send a file to a client - Mac

  1. Press control on your keyboard and click the file at the same time (or right-click the file).
  2. Select Copy Dropbox Link. Do NOT select Share...
  3. The link will be copied to your clipboard. 
  4. You can then paste it to an email, message, or wherever people can access it (they will see a link and then click on it to download).
  5. POWER TIP (optional): to make the file instantly download from the link, change the end of the link from =0 to =1


To send a file to a client - PC

  1. Right-click the file and hover over More…
  2. Choose Copy Dropbox link. Do NOT select Share...
  3. The link will be copied to your clipboard. 
  4. You can then paste it to an email, message, or wherever people can access it (they will see a link and then click on it to download).
  5. POWER TIP (optional): to make the file instantly download from the link, change the end of the link from =0 to =1
